Dangote Group Predicts Naira Strengthening Amid Economic Recovery in Nigeria

The Dangote Group's latest Economic Research and Intelligence report projects that the Nigerian naira will trade at approximately N1,330 per dollar by the end of 2026, with an average of N1,385 for the entire year. This optimistic outlook is attributed to several factors, including rising foreign reserves, an influx of portfolio investments, and decreased reliance on fuel imports due to enhanced domestic refining capabilities.

This projection is significant as it reflects a broader trend of economic stabilization in Nigeria. The naira has already appreciated by about 4% against the dollar in the first half of 2026, bolstered by a record $46 billion in net foreign reserves. The World Bank has recognized the naira as one of Africa's most resilient currencies, with minimal depreciation despite regional exchange rate pressures. This resilience is crucial for attracting foreign investment, which can lead to further economic growth and development.

Looking ahead, market observers should monitor how the naira's strengthening impacts investor sentiment and Nigeria's economic policies. With the World Bank raising its growth forecast for Nigeria to 4.3% for 2026, the potential for economic recovery is palpable. However, any shifts in global oil prices or domestic monetary policy could influence these projections. Stakeholders in African and global markets will be keen to see if Nigeria can maintain this momentum, as it could serve as a bellwether for other economies in the region.
